Not Fade Away - Guitar and Harmonica Lessons + Album Cover Video
The Rolling Stones did a cover of Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away.
I did a cover of Not Fade Away too.
Learn it here on guitar and harmonica.
NOT FADE AWAY - Rhythm Guitar Lesson
This first video demonstrates the chords and rhythm on acoustic guitar. Grab the Help File below and follow along.
The lesson starts with the intro - 4 shots over 2 bars that repeat.
That's followed by the rhythm part, the Bo Diddley Beat, for the main section of the song. Getting this rhythm right and comfortable is the key to Not Fade Away.
Then we'll finish up by looking at the guitar solo. I'll show you how to make a movable D bar chord and how we use that in the solo.

NOT FADE AWAY - Harmonica
Brian Jones plays two harmonicas in the recording. I show you how that's done and then I demonstrate how you can get by with a single harmonica if you're going to be playing in a rack.

Turn it up!
I have recorded my own version of Not Fade Away that I am very proud of.
I used my Takamine for all guitars and am playing harmonica into a Shure Green Bullet mic, through a Fender Super Champ amplifier. The amplifier was then mic'ed with a Shure 57. I love that sound.

Not Fade Away - Song Info
Not Fade Away is a Buddy Holly classic that was covered by the Stones on their England's Newest Hitmakers album.
Keith is rocking out the Bo Diddley beat on guitar and Brian Jones is blowing two different harmonicas.
So the trick is to put Keith's part together with Brian's, utilize the rack and play the song with a single harmonica.
It starts with the intro.
That's followed with the guitar rhythm which is closely following the beat made famous by Bo Diddley. This incorporate 5 shots over a 2 bar progression.
Keith's guitar solo is next. Learn how to play the typical D chord as a barre chord and move it up the neck to play in different keys. The guitar is simply playing the chords of the song but up the neck to give it the higher treble sound.
Brian's harmonica parts and solo are covered in the second video.
He actually plays two harmonicas in the recording. When the guitar is playing rhythm in E, Brian is using an A harmonica. When the progression goes to A, he switches to a D harmonica.
An A harmonica is the second position harmonica for the key of E and a D harmonica is the second position harmonica for the key of A.
You can get by with a single harmonica, the D, but you'll have to make some consolations.
It's all in the videos.
Have fun.
