Taking Care

The G string on my Fender F-65 has been giving me difficulties when trying to tune up.
It's getting hung up in the groove in the nut and needs to be able to slide instead. Special files can be used to enlarge the groove but a less invasive trick is to use soap.

Fixing The Squeeky String

Use Soap
Chisel off a small sliver of soap with your finger nail or knife and work the soap into the grooves in the nut.
This should allow for the string to move smoothly in the groove when the string is tightened or loosened using the tuning pegs.
That's all there is to it.
