Hohner Specail 20

The C harmonica is required in this one.
A C harmonica is the first one you need to follow along with the lessons on the site. I often play a Hohner Special 20 Harmonica in the key of C through a Shure Green Bullet microphone Model 5200 and Fender Super Champ amplifier

The Blues Scale

Blues Scale Notes, Guitar And Harmonica Tabs

The unique sound of the Blues is partly attributed to lowering the pitch of key tones such as the third and the fifth by a semi-tone. Playing the flat or minor third and flat fifth against the dominant 7th chord sounds great – raw and gritty. These notes make up an important part of what’s known as the Blues Scale.
Compared to a major scale, here are the degrees that make up the scale:
1 3b 4 4# or 5b 5 7b – Root, flat 3rd, 4, sharp 4, 5, flat 7
Note that the second and sixth aren’t part of the scale.

The staff below shows the notes for the blues scale in the key of G.
The harmonica tabs are also shown. Bending is required. Do your best.

Play each note of the Blues scale together on guitar and harmonica.
Use the guitar and your ear to help get the harmonica bends right.

Guitar Chords For G Blues

G7 Blues Chords

The Blues scale can be played over the entire Blues progression whether on the I, IV, or V chords.
Set up a simple blues swing rhythm on guitar strumming a 12 Bar Blues, play the harmonica over the G Blues scale.
Work on single notes, and on the single bends on draw 3 and draw 4.

Then go ahead and get carried away.

  1. Leon Greenwell says:

I enjoyed your getting carried away. Most encouraging!

  2. George says:

    Hi Leon!
The best thing about playing guitar and harmonica is that you are your own one man jam session.
Getting carried away is the point.
    Peace
