C Major 7 Rhythm

E minor 7 Rhythm

In this session, the iii minor and iii minor 7 chord are up. Since we are in the key of C, we are looking at and listening to Em and Em7.
I will also introduce a new rhythm that incorporates what a bass guitar would play.

1 2& 3 4& - Down Down Up Down Down Up

Strumming Pattern
Em7 Rhythm

So we've seen this rhythm before but this time we want to play the root and fifth on beats 1 and 3 while playing the full chord as eighth notes on beats 2 and 4.

Here's how it's counted.
1 2& 3 4&

The first beat is a down stroke on the root of the chord.
The second beat has a down stroke on the first eighth and up stroke on the second eighth.
The third beat is a down stroke on the fifth of the chord.
The fourth beat has a down stroke on the first eighth and up stroke on the second eighth.

Down, down, up, down, down, up.

Things To Work On
Counting
Playing single notes on beats 1 and 3 alternating between the root and fifth.
Ear Training - Practice singing the different notes of the two chords.
Alternating between Em and Em7 and hearing the difference.
