Strumming Pattern
This rhythm has a little bit of everything.
It starts out with a quarter note on the first beat.
The second beat consists of a dotted eighth note followed by a sixteenth note.
The third beat contains two eighth notes.
The fourth beat is made up of four sixteenth notes.
Here's how it's counted.
1 2 a 3 & 4 e & a
The first beat is a down stroke.
The dotted eighth of the second beat is a down stroke while the sixteenth is an up stroke.
Both eighth notes of the third beat are down strokes.
The sixteenth notes of the fourth beat alternate between down strokes and up stokes.
Down, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up.
Things To Work On

5 Pack Case of Hohner Special 20s
What do I like about the Special 20s?
Great Sound, Smooth Comb, Responsive to Bending - but not loose, Affordable. I play Special 20s more than any other model.
Hohner Harmonica Holder
The Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder fits harmonicas up to 7-1/2" long, has a nickel plated finish and fits any neck shape.
I have used a similar holder for over 25 years. This no-nonsense holder will work for you.
Martin Acoustic Guitar Strings
If it's been a while since you've changed your strings, you won't believe the difference in the sound. These are some excellent Martin strings. Need I say more? Totally affordable.
These rhythm and strumming exercises are paying off! What model Takamine are you using? I’ve been looking at the GD and the EF series which look very similar to your guitar. (They have great tone and won’t put me in the poor house!). Thanks, George, love the lessons! Michael in Albuquerque.
Hi Michael,
I am playing a Takamine G Series EG541SC. Not your top of the line Takamine but I like it.
They make great instruments that don’t break the bank.
I’m happy that the lessons are helping.
Thanks,
George
