Stretching and Tuning

Tuning The Guitar To The Piano

Tuning Guitar To Piano

The image above maps out which string correlates to the note on the piano and can be used to tune the guitar by ear. To start, we don't need to be perfectly in tune but get it close.

New strings will stretch and go out of tune easily in the beginning. You can shorten the length of time this occurs for by stretching out the strings and simply involves pulling the string up and away from the sound board. Don't pull too hard and hold the string against the neck to ensure that it doesn't pull out from the nut.

When you go to tune again after stretching the strings they will be flat and out of tune.

Wrap Up
Changing guitar strings is an easy job and while the strings are off it is a good time to clean up the guitar and give it a nice polish.
If you are having troubles with squeeky string, try some soap in the nut.
