Introduction

Layla was written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon but it is speculated that Duane Allman came up with the defining guitar lick.

The song was released in 1971 on the album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominoes.

The Layla riff is played in the key of D
Here, I demonstrate it in third position, meaning that you will need a C harmonica.
The Hohner Special 20 is my harmonica of choice - C Hohner Special 20.
